Overview

The Tark has begun somewhere in 2002 when we experienced the urgent need for an advanced, visual HTML Editing/ Authoring and Site Management environment for the GNU/Linux platform. After some Googling and a quite systematic Evaluation we found that such a beast just doesn't exist. Simply there's no visual Authoring/ Editing environment for GNU/Linux, left alone tools including Site or Link Management; the situation is quite strange, since so-called WYSIWYG editors like Microsoft's FrontPage, Adobe's GolLive!, or Macromedia's Dreamweaver are the de-facto standard on the proprietary Microsoft Windows platform. Since the use of a server-based Content Management System (CMS) isn't always possible or even necessary we started in October 2002 the design of The Tark.
