Application Type: Source Code HTML Editor ("web site development
environment").

SCREEM is a web site development environment. It's
purpose is to increase productivity when constructing a site, by
providing quick access to commonly used features. While it is written
for use with the GNOME desktop environment in mind it does not
specifically require you to be running it, just have the libraries
installed.
Unlike most other web site / HTML editors SCREEM does
not provide a WYSIWYG display of pages. Instead you are presented with
the raw html source in its editor window.
In general WYSIWYG editors do not produce good clean
valid HTML, and can also slow you down if they do no support an element
that you wish to insert. By utilising a text based editing system you
can use the markup you want rather than what the application thinks you
need, and also provide quick access to commonly used elements via
toolbar buttons which insert the markup at the current cursor position

CSS Wizard: This is a screenshot of the CSS
Wizard from version 0.4.x of SCREEM.

The Editor: The editor from SCREEM 0.4.x
showing syntax highlighting in use for an XHTML 1.0 document.

Built in Help: SCREEM 0.4.x features help on HTML 4.0
elements, this screenshot shows the help page for <base>.

Link View: For large sites it can be useful to
visualise the linked structure, and also check for broken links. This
screenshot shows the link view from version 0.4.1.

Main Editor: The main screem window from development
version 0.5.6, showing the page structure view on the right hand side.
Note the Valid column which indicates if the markup is valid according
to the doctype of the page being edited.

Main Window: The main screem window upon
startup from version 0.4.x, later versions no longer display this screen
and instead startup straight in the editor with a blank document ready
to be edited.

Inline Tagging: One of SCREEM's very nice
features is on display here, the inline tagging, in this case showing
the valid attributes for a <tr> tag.

Preferences: The preferences dialog for SCREEM
where you can customise the application to suit you better.

Site Information: The site information dialog, which
contains an overview on the size of the site and individual file types,
along with when it was last uploaded.
