Kafka is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Web development
system that runs on KDE for Linux and Unix based systems.
Kafka was born out of the need for a reliable, good quality WYSIWYG
web development system for KDE. When Kafka was first started there were
virtually no WYSIWYG web editors available, let alone one for KDE. Even
though there were numorous posts to the KDE mailing lists about the need
for one, one of which from Jono Bacon before he joined the Kafka
project, nothing was created.
Finally, Gunnestein Lye, Frederik Hollgen and Sigurd Egseth decided
to tackle the problem as part of a school project. The project was
started, and development begun.
After some initial development, work stopped to finish off KDE2,
after which Kafka development would begin again. When KDE2 was release
Jono Bacon emailed the original maintainers but got no response. After
numorous emails, Jono took over as maintainer for the project. Now,
2001, Jono has unfortunately no time to do this job and Nikolas
Zimmermann overtook this job (Source:
