Übersicht
Das OASIS-Dateiformat wird seit November 2002 von der
Organization for
the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS; zuvor
SGML Open) entwickelt und gepflegt. Das Format basiert auf dem XML-
Dateiformat von
OpenOffice.org 1.0 und wurde der OASIS von
Sun Microsystems
kostenfrei zur Verfügung gestellt.

»Our goal is to achieve consensus on an open
standard that will protect content -- whether it is a 800-page
airplane specification or a legal contract -- from being locked into

Das Dateiformat wird in verschiedenen Anwendungen
verwendet, darunter
OpenOffice.org
(OOo) und KOffice
(seit 08/2003).
Das Format basiert auf komprimierten XML- Dateien und
erleichtert den Austausch aller Inhalte eines Dokuments -- Text ebenso
wie Gliederungspunkte und Metadaten -- mit anderen Programmen.
