Übersicht
Synaptic ist ein graphisches Frontend für APT. Es bietet u.a.
ein flexibles Filtersystem für die Paketdatenbank; so können rasch
installierte, nicht installierte aber installierbare oder
aktualisierbare Pakete selektiert werden.
Aus der Selbstdarstellung:
»Synaptic (previously known as raptor) is our
yet-another-GUI-frontend for APT. But the major difference from
other frontends is that Synaptic is meant to be easy to use.
Instead of using a hierarchical tree for viewing packages,
where the top level is comprised of package groups, it uses a flat
list. The contents of the list can be trimmed using a flexible
filtering system, that allows you to specify your filter based on
criteria like package name, section/group, state etc.
Synaptic is based on the WINGs toolkit (from Window Maker),
but the core code is written in a way that adding frontends for
other toolkits is straightforward. There are plans on writing a new
frontend using Qt soon.
The program supports both RPM and Debian systems, after
recompilation« (Quelle:

Anmerkung: Mittlerweile basiert Synaptic auf den
Gtk-Bibliotheken.
