Übersicht
Die eigentlich älteste Möglichkeit, sich seine Linuxkenntnisse
bescheinigen zu lassen, wird von der "Sair Linux & and GNU
Certification Inc." angeboten; diese arbeitet mit Sylvan
Prometrics, einem großen Anbieter von Online-Tests, zusammen; der
Zertifizierungsvorgang wird daher auch gelegentlich als Sylvan
Prometric Linux & GNU Certification bezeichnet. Es handelt sich
dabei um eine weitestgehend distributionsunabhängige Zertifizierung:
- Sair Linux and GNU Certified Professional (LCP, Level 1),

Der Ablauf ist prinzipiell der gleiche wie beim LPI; man legt die
Prüfung in einem autorisierten Testzentrum in seiner Nähe für etwa 100
US-Dollar ab.
Sair Inc. wurde vor einigen Jahren von Wave Technlologies,
einem der weltweit größten Schulungsunternehmen im IT-Bereich,
übernommen. Wave hat bereits Kooperationsverträge mit Linuxcare, Red Hat
und Caldera abgeschlossen und ist außerdem auch in das LPI-Projekt
involviert.
In Deutschland ist Wave noch nicht präsent, unterhält aber einen
Standort in London. Deutsche Trainingszentren, die auf die
Sair-Prüfungen vorbereiten, gibt es derzeit nicht, auch bei potentiellen
Arbeitgebern hierzulande ist dieses Zertifikat nahezu unbekannt, dabei
sind die Fragen aber durchaus nicht anspruchslos. Das abgefragte Wissen
entspricht eher dem des klassischen Unix-Nutzers bzw. -Administrators,
ist demzufolge stark Shell-orientiert (Quelle: Linux Magazin).

Deistufiges Zertifizierungsprogramm der Linux Professional Group.
Level 1 - The Sair Linux and GNU Certified Administrator (LCA)
Der erste Level besteht aus vier Prüfungen von jeweils 50 Fragen:
- Installation & Configuration (101),
- System Administration (102),
- Networking (103),
- Security, Ethics and Privacy (104).
Nach Bestehen von Prüfung 101 oder 102 darf man sich Linux
Certified Professional (LCP) nennen, nach Bestehen aller vier
Prüfungen Linux Certified Administrator (LCA). Die Prüfungen
können weltweit in allen Prüfungszentren von Prometric oder VUE abgelegt
werden.
Level 1 - Themen:
Level 2 - The Sair Linux and GNU Certified Engineer (LCE)
Level 2 besteht aus vier Prüfungen, die unter acht Themen ausgewählt
werden können. Verpflichtend ist die Prüfung Core Concepts and
Practices (CCE); unter den verbleibenden 7 Kursen kann man drei
beliebig auswählen. Diese Kurse sind:
- Apache/Webservers;
- Samba/Resource Sharing;
- Mail Systems;
- Amanda Backup;
- MySQL/Databases;
- PHP und XML/Web Implementation;
- Perl/Scripting
Von diesen Kursen sind die ersten drei sowie Core Concepts and
Practices seit Mitte 2001 verfügbar.
Nach Absolvieren von Level 2 darf man sich Linux Certified
Engineer (LCE) nennen.
Level 2 - Themen:
Level 3 - The Master Sair Linux and GNU Certified Engineer (MLCE)
Level 3 soll im Jahr 2002 entwickelt werden und zum Master Linux
Certified Engineer (MLCE) führen.

Beispielfragen
Der Linux Loader wird als vollständiger OS-Lader betrachtet, hat
jedoch auch Beschränkungen. Welche?
