Sun Linux ist eine auf Red Hat
Linux basierende Linux-Distribution von
Sun Microsystems;
im März 2003 wurde bekannt, dass Sun das eigene Linux-Derivat nicht mehr
weiterentwickeln wird; stattdessen sollen mehrere Standard-
Distributionen unterstützt werden; in Frage kommen dafür
Red Hat
Enterprise Linux Advanced Server und
United Linux für die x86- Plattform. Seit September 2003 verfügt Sun
jedoch wieder über eine hauseigene Distribution: das
Sun Microsystems Java
Desktop System (JDS).

»With the development of Sun Linux, Sun plans to increase
contributions to the Linux community through participation with open
source organizations such as the Free Standards Group, Linux, and
Linux International. Sun will continue to support our many open
source initiatives, and pursue opportunities to contribute Java[tm]
technology, Solaris[tm] and other Sun[tm] ONE code and IP to the
