Übersicht
Die FPSE werden von Microsoft für UNIX zur Verfügung gestellt, aber
nicht übermässig aktiv gepflegt.
Es gibt eine Reihe von Projekten, die sich mit deren Verwendung bzw.
Verbesserung unter GNU/Lunux beschäftigen.
Apache-Frontpage Project

Ein aktives und produktives Projekt, stellt aber nur Binaries im
RPM-Format sowie Sourcen als SRPMS zur Verfügung, z.B.:
- apache-fp-1.3.27-7.i386.rpm
- apache-fp-devel-1.3.27-7.i386.rpm
- apache-fp-manual-1.3.27-7.i386.rpm
- mod_fpse-5.0.2.2634-7.i386.rpm
- mod_ssl-2.8.14-3.i386.rpm
Wer mit Debian GNU/Linux arbeitet, dem wird hier nicht geholfen.
mod_frontpage unter Debian GNU/Linux
Hierzu gab es einen Thread in <debian-apache@lists.debian.org> unter
dem Betreff "Re: Packaging mod_frontpage?"; Ergebnis:
"I've had a look at the above website and suggest the following:
- RTR's FrontPage support for Apache will never be made a part of
Debian due to the licensing
- apart from the patch to the Apache mod_frontpage.c, there is no
source code so you're stuck with the operating systems and
architectures that they release binaries for (in this case, Linux
binaries are only available for i386)
If you want to go ahead with this, you'll need to:
- download the Debian package sources for your distribution
- unpack the -orig.tar.gz source file and apply the Debian
.diff.gz
patch to the sources
- apply RTR's mod_frontpage.c patch, which will also modify a few
other
bits and pieces (include/httpd.h, main/http_request.c, main/util.c)
- fix any breakages in the above process
- modify debian/rules to include FrontPage support, as per the RTR
documentation (probably just include "--add-module=mod_frontpage.c")
- run debian/rules to build the apache and apache-common packages,
and
see if it works"

Daraus ergab sich das Improved mod_frontpage Project von Christof
Pohl, das jedoch anscheinend nicht mehr aktiv gepflegt wird; die
aktuelle Version ist 1.5.1 für Apache httpd 1.3.17 und wurde freigegeben
am February 21th, 2001.

Mit viel Handarbeit kann so auch eine Kombination aus Apache,
Frontpage, mod_ssl und PHP4 und/oder PHP3 gebaut werden (vgl.

Der Anbieter Ready-to-Run-Software, Inc., bietet Portierungen der
FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions für verschiedene Unix-Derivate an,
darunter Redhat Linux 9.0, FreeBSD 5.0 und BSDi 5.0 sowie IBM pSeries,
iSeries und zSeries für SuSE Linux; Debian GNU/Linux wird jedoch auch
hier nicht unterstützt; die zu unterzeichnende EULA widerspricht
ausserdem auch den Software Guidelines von Debian.
Die FPSE werden ab dem Service Release 1.1 vom April 14, 2003
bevorzugt als Apache DSO module eingebunden. Unterstützt werden dabei
folgende Versionen:
- Apache 1.3.26 and above with mod_frontpage,
- Apache 1.3.26 and above with DSO of mod_frontpage,
- Apache 2.0.40 and above with DSO of mod_frontpage.
